Introduction to the Power of Video Content

One of the biggest trends is the rise of “the video podcast.” I’ve been listening to podcasts for a few years, and I feel like the rest of the world is finally catching up to “podcasting.” Whether it’s just the time for podcasts to be even more of a “thing,” or video has entered the podcast game and taken it to a whole new level.

The Rise of Video Podcasts

We even have platforms like YouTube and Spotify pouring millions of dollars into video podcasts. Would I have thought that this is where podcasting would be today?

Maybe not; I always thought that it would remain an audio experience. Do I think it’s going to stay a video experience forever? Well, that is another blog post or video for another day.

You know how we usually listen to podcasts, just like listening to the radio or music? Well, things are changing big time! Video Podcasts are like a mix of watching YouTube and listening to a podcast simultaneously. Big companies like YouTube and Spotify are super interested in this and are spending a lot of money to make video podcasts popular.

In the past, podcasts were all about listening. You could play them in the background while doing homework or cleaning your room. But now, with video podcasts, it’s like watching a show where you can see the people talking. It’s like they’re right there with you, telling you their stories or whatever the audience perceives to be valuable.

YouTube, which is all about videos, is really into this idea. And Spotify, where we usually listen to songs, has also gotten on board. They’re both trying to make video podcasts a big deal by improving their websites and apps to make them work better for these kinds of shows.
So, video podcasts are this new thing changing how we enjoy stories and learn new things. And who knows? Maybe you’ll make your own video podcast one day!

Personal Journey with Podcasting

Let me start by sharing that I first started my first iteration of a podcast in 2015. I began, I tried, and I stopped. I’ve since done this many times, but I’ve learned a great deal from starting and stopping for so many years. I’ve done audio and video podcasts. I also have a secret podcast experience where I share my life and business journey in a format that is essential for any creative business owner who wants to hear honest and raw advice that I wish someone would have shared with me along my journey.

In my recent podcasting adventures, I discovered a fantastic workflow that combines Squadcast and Descript, making podcast creation a breeze. Let me walk you through the process!

Recording with Squadcast

First off, I linked my Squadcast account to Descript. This allowed me to tap into Squadcast’s strengths – exceptional remote recording capabilities and seamless communication. For example, I recently recorded a special episode with Angelina for our members, which I’ll also be sharing publicly. The recording process in Squadcast was straightforward and efficient.

Editing in Descript

Post-recording, the next step is exporting the files (video or audio) to Descript. This is where the real fun begins. Descript’s AI-powered editing tools are game-changers. With features like Multicam and active speaker selection, editing, which used to take hours, is now significantly quicker and more intuitive.

Fine-Tuning Your Content

Editing in Descript goes beyond just cutting and trimming. Say you want to remove a specific part of the conversation; simply select and delete it. Descript also makes it easy to eliminate those pesky filler words that can creep into our speech. This functionality ensures that our final product is polished and professional.

Collaborative Editing

I usually pass the editing baton to my husband, who doubles as our podcast editor. Descript’s collaborative features shine here.
